In less than three weeks My Dog Is NOT A Scientist will be delivered to your mailbox (if you’ve pre-ordered. Wink, nudge). It’s been an exhilarating few months . . . and busy. I’ve been working on a load of interviews for blogs, vlogs, and podcasts. I created a book trailer, book swag, and a curriculum guide. I feel like I’m getting a self-directed MBA in book marketing this year. It’s been a LOT, especially while I’ve been getting the new house set up, but I love learning and I love writing so learning about this new aspect of writing is worth it.

My Dog Is NOT A Scientist is a humorous look at the scientific method. It’s the story of a young scientist, Yara, who is determined to win the science fair, and her crazy dog, Renzo, who ruins all her experiments. It’s a story of resilience, standing up to critics, and creative problem-solving. There are STEM/STEAM, literacy, and SEL tie-ins that make this a great book for classrooms and libraries. To help support all the amazing educators out there I created a free downloadable curriculum guide full of worksheets to keep the learning going long after the book has been read.
I’ll be celebrating the launch of the book at the amazing Copper Dog Books in Beverly. It’s my local bookshop, the owners do a ton for the community AND they have a dog in their store name: a match made in heaven. If you’re in the area on April 23rd stop by for some science fun, giveaways and to celebrate with me!
I’m so excited to see early reviews coming in on GoodReads, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. Nothing makes a writer happier than knowing their book is being read and what people think of it. Reviews really do make a difference when it comes to book sales so if you enjoy the book if you can take the time to review it I’d appreciate it. Speaking of reviews here are a few from early reviewers:
"Learning really should be fun. My Dog is NOT a Scientist just might become your budding scientist’s favorite book." - Lori Alden Holuta, A Liscense to Quill
A funny hypothesis properly tested and confirmed. - Kirkus
“This visually delightful romp through one young scientist’s exasperating journey to the school Science Fair is a kid-centered celebration of creativity, persistence … and the scientific method.”
- Loree Griffin Burns, multi-award-winning author, scientist, and teacher
I took some time out of marketing and unpacking in the new house to attend the SCBWI winter conference in New York. This is one of my favorite things to do and I was so excited that the conference was back to being live and in person. I spent time with old friends, made some new friends, and left with a solution to a picture book manuscript I’d hit a wall with. Could not have been happier.
You guys are amazing. I appreciate each and every one of you for being on this journey with me. If you’ve got a second here are a few things you can do to help me bring this book to little scientists.

Spring is coming up everywhere these days. I’m getting out into my new garden and starting to discover what’s growing there. I love gardening but it’s been a couple years since I’ve had a garden so it feels great getting my hands back in the dirt. Spring always feels like renewal. I hope sunshine and longer days fill you with energy, hope, and strength. Happy Spring!
