I'm back!
As many of you know My Dog Is NOT A Scientist came out just after my divorce. Single-parenting, house shopping/moving/renovating, new full-time, and all the in-person book promotion and school events (which is what I enjoy the most) didn’t leave much time for my online presence. Sorry!
While I may not have been writing posts, I definitely have been writing. I wrote a follow-up to My Dog as well as another new picture book series for Yeehoo Press. Unfortunately, due to a change in their market direction, those projects stalled. *SIGH* such is the business. Meanwhile, I’ve been working on novels (I’m always working on a novel). I just completed a multigenerational modern homage to one of my favorite films, 9 to 5 called 12 Minute Fate. I could not stop giggling the whole time I was writing which is always a sign of success. 12 Minute Fate is my fifth novel.
FIVE! Five full-length novels in 7 years along with picture books and poetry and essays. Not too shabby. Where are these novels you say? Well, they’ve been trapped making the rounds. All of them have repeatedly received requests-for-full and revise-and-resubmit, some have received lengthy revisions with publishing house editors and one made it all the way to the final acquisitions board. But, alas, I have received so many champagne rejections my email now has a drinking problem.
I have been standing outside OZ knocking for a long time and while the guard keeps chatting to me through the tiny peephole I’ve grown tired of waiting for the door to open so I’m coming in the window.
This summer I plan to bring out my third novel, Hera. I wrote this mythic, villain redemption story because working mothers deserve a goddess, too, and at this stage in life, it is the one I am most excited to get out in the world.
I’ll be sharing more on that over the coming weeks. Keep an eye on here and on Instagram. I’m super excited about this new focus and excited to share the journey with you.
