My book baby turns one month old today! What a month it’s been. From acceptance to publication took a little over a year which is fast for a traditionally published picture book, but still a long time to wait when you’re me and have no patience. :) But now it’s finally here. It’s an amazing feeling to hold the book in my hands as I read it to groups of kids. Hearing them laugh at all the right places and ask great questions has been the joy of a lifetime.

I want to share all about this amazing month but first a shameless plug:
If you haven’t already please purchase a copy for yourself, someone you know, or your local little free library. If you’ve already got a copy please leave a review or rating on Amazon, and/or GoodReads. Booksales really are determined by reviews and ratings so I appreciate you taking the time. No money? No problem. Please request the book at your local library.
Shameless plug over. Now back to the news. It’s been a whirlwind month with My Dog Is NOT A Scientist being featured in 11+ different kidlit blogs and journals. For links to all of them click here:
Copper Dog Books in Beverly, MA hosted a wonderful book launch event. Even though the weather was dreary we had a great turn out and the kids loved doing a bridge-building science experiment after I read the book. I’m filling up my calendar right now with live and virtual visits to bookstores, toy stores, summer camps, and science clubs. No anyone who might be interested? Shoot me an email.

Some of my favorite moments have been hearing how much teachers love the book and how well it works with them. I’m getting so many new ideas to add to the 30-page curriculum guide I already created and I had so many people tell me about their favorite experiments I set up a page with links to experiments here.
I’ve been lucky enough to read to a couple of curious and fun homeschool co-ops. I loved seeing them connect with the book. Because my book came out so late in the year it’s looking like I won’t get into more schools until the fall, but that will just give me something to look forward to all year long. Feel free to reach out if you have a school that would like a visit.
Beyond the book, life has been rolling right along. I’ve almost finished my first year as the on-staff interior designer at Endicott College. This is my first summer-construction-prep season. Getting all the renovation projects on their feet so our crew can start swinging hammers as soon as the students drive away has been fun insane creative and logistical chaos. But I’ve been pulling it off somehow and can’t wait to see things come together (Note to self: avoid having a book come out in April/May in the future.) Somehow it all kept moving along and I even found a little time for gardening and a quick trip to Mystic Aquarium along with a night on an antique boat. The weeks have gone by fast and full of all the joy spring brings.

Congratulations, Betsy <3
